This is my take on the difference between single sex schools and co-ed schools. Single sex schools enable students to be able to develop better academically, allowing them to be academically strong and to a certain extent, securing their futures. On the other hand, co-ed schools, though not academically as strong as single sex schools, allows students to be able to develop socially, which would prove to be a great help in their future social lives.

In single sex schools, students tend to do better academically as they generally spend more time studying rather than with the opposite sex. In co-ed schools, it is more likely that cases of boy-girl relationships would occur. When students are involved in these boy-girl relationships, they would rather spend time with each other than do their homework or study. This is proven by the fact that many ‘couples’, male and female students behaving intimately in their school uniforms during after school hours in shopping malls and public areas. This would greatly affect their academic performance since time outside of school hours should be used wisely and spent mostly on academics. Though boy-girl relationships cannot be prevented, it should not happen so early during primary or secondary school times. In single sex schools, this would generally not happen since the school hosts only male or female students.

Also, in single sex schools, since all students are of the same gender, they tend to be more open to each other. For example, the boys would start to use vulgarities more frequently since they are all very rowdy when together. Dirty jokes or comments would also be frequently heard. If these were to become habits, and these habits brought into the future, into their career and lives, it would show the lack of social etiquette and manners one should possess.

In co-ed schools, students tend to be able to develop socially, and acquire the necessary social skills needed in the future when they go out to work. As co-ed schools have students of both genders, both genders would learn to respect each other. Boys would learn to behave gentlemanly, and not be so rowdy around girls. These social etiquettes are important in the future since there will be people of both genders in common workplaces. If you do not know how to behave or present yourself well, others will have a bad impression of you, and this might affect your career. Therefore, these social skills and etiquettes are very important and are best nurtured when young since they would eventually become habits in life.

Both single sex schools and co-ed schools have their advantages and disadvantages. However, I would think that co-ed schools would be a slightly better choice. Though single sex schools are generally academically stronger than co-ed schools, knowledge and wisdom can be acquired not only during adolescence, as knowledge and wisdom can be acquired any time in life. ‘It is never too late to learn.’ Co-ed schools nurtures your social skills would eventually be one of the many important factors contributing to your career, and best when it is regarded as habits from young.

To conclude, I think that co-ed schools are a slightly better choice since they enable students to develop socially, a more important factor compared to academics in the long run.

Social Studies Argumentative Essay - Democracy

Democracy creates stability in a society

Democracy is a system of government where every member in a society would have a chance of voting for an ideal leader which they think have the potential to be a leader in the society. This, ideally, should be able to help the society be organised and governed well. However, I think otherwise, I think that democracy does not create stability in a society.

Democracy creates stability in a society only to a small extent. Democracy ensures that everybody in a society has a fair and equal chance of voting for their leaders. This, in a way, allows everybody in the society to be happy since they are able to vote for the leaders they support. Since everybody is happy, stability in the society would follow. Also, at least it is a form of government that helps to keep the society in order. This system therefore, creates stability in a society only to a small extent since it governs the society and keeps it in order, at least compared to one without any form of government.

However, I think that democracy does not create stability in a society. Even though everybody would have a fair and equal chance of voting for their leaders, in the end, there can only be one leader elected from the many candidates. This would result in the people supporting the winning candidate to be happy, but not the people supporting the other candidates. This would cause some unrest in the society, and therefore, would not create stability.

Also, there are a few different types of democracy, and not all are liked by people as some might be unfair to certain groups of people in a society. For example, in the United States during the 1950s, though there was a democratic system present, the Civil Rights Movement still broke out. This was because the citizens were unhappy about their voting rights. The law during that time states that only white people were allowed to vote, and not black people. This, along with other unfair policies, like social segregation, sparked off the Civil Rights Movement. Though the Civil Rights Movement started off with non-violent protests, it gradually changed to violent and bloody riots. This definitely does not show stability in a society, even though a democratic system is in place since it is prejudiced towards certain groups of people in the society.

In conclusion, I think that democracy creates stability in a society only to a small extent since it is a form of government to keep a society in order. However, I think that democracy would not be able to create stability in a society to a larger extent since different people vote for different candidates and in the end only one candidate would win. The people supporting the other candidates would not be contented and might protest or riot, which does not contribute to the stability of a society. Also, democracy might not be the best governing system for a society, since some might be unfair to certain groups of people in a society. Therefore, democracy cannot create stability in a society.

Teenage Issues: Premarital Sex

Teenagers are acting too fast, way faster than they can think of the consequences of these acts. Examples of the foolish things teenagers do are smoking, abusing drugs, premarital sex, consuming alchohol, joining gangs. All these actions leads to serious consequences and they can be prevented if the teenagers think of them before they carry out these actions. Some of these consequences might be too severe for the teenagers, but some are manageable and teenagers might be able to turn over a new leaf.

After reading the article, Fast, Easy, and Unfulfilling Teen Sex, by Steve Rabey, I deduced that teenage sex, or premarital sex, is one that has more serious consequences. It is stated in the article that in 1996, there was a syphilis outbreak in an Atlanta suburb, where 17 residents were infected, and another 250 were forced to receive medical treatment. This outbreak showed among teens, some even as young as 12 years old. These teens gathered for sex parties, and some actually had as many as 100 sexual partners.

These actions of casual sex, and having multiple sex partners, resulted in the outbreak of a sexually-transmitted disease, syphilis. However, though these teens admitted to having sexual activities, their parents had no idea about them doing so, and not knowing what to do even if they had known about the activities their children are involved in.

So, the problems present are teens acting before they think, and their parents not knowing how to educate their children on premarital sex. The consequences could be very serious as a result. As stated in the article, there was an outbreak of syphilis, a sexually-transmitted disease among the teens. This disease would stay with the teens for life, and would cause them to suffer quite a great deal. This is how one foolish act would result them in suffering for a long time. Also, there might be possibilities that the female party would get pregnant if no precautions are taken, like the use of condoms. If the female party were to get pregnant in a session of casual sex with another teen, several problems might arise. What would happen to the baby? What would happen to the young mother? What would happen to the young father? Abortions might then come in, since these young mothers would not be mentally ready for a child, and abortions are morally subjective. If the young mother does not abort the baby, would she be able to support the baby? Financially and morally, the young mother would not be able to due to the fact that she would not be able to earn her own income, and that she does not have experience with children. The father might then just shirk off the responsibility and disappear.

So, these are consequences that teenagers must think of before carrying out actions, so as to prevent them from happening. A moment’s of foolish might cause you an life of suffering.

'Fast, Easy, and Unfulfilling Teen Sex' - http://www.youthspecialties.com/articles/topics/sexuality/teen_sex.php

Testing testing first post

Testing first post.
